Yesterday's encouraging success was getting the summary views I've been using for the last few years to work properly again, after last week's changes. Well, almost properly. "set trusted_s1" is your friend. Well, my friend, anyway.

I was listening to some Hüsker last night, as one does when one has a strange desire to type in odd codes for HTML special characters, and it occurred to me to wonder about the rather good upbeat guitar version of No Promise Have I Made that I heard a couple of years ago, and to go looking for it (as it was late at night, I completely forgot Tony having given me a copy - typical. Thanks, Tone). Anyway, I ended up on Grunt Fart's website, where there was a news item over a year old titled "Hell Freezes Over". Those of you who care probably already know, but I was surprised. This only begs the question of what happened to Greg Norton - the story I heard was that he'd become a chef. Or perhaps that moustache finally awoke in the night and ate him alive.

There was also a Scotsman article about an upcoming display, at the Botanics, of Socotran plants. I remember the New Scientist article about their expedition there several years ago. It sounds like an astonishing place (cucumber trees?) and I was very taken with the pictures of the Dragonsblood trees - to the extent that last year I bought a couple of tiny saplings which are growing in pots in my front room. Despite my attentions, they aren't dead yet. I'm looking forward to that. Anyone else fancy it? It'll be in July.

I've probably already mentioned the Jumping Frenchmen of Maine, so I'll say no more.

The Beltane open meeting's on the 12th of February, incidentally. Can I persuade any of you to take an interest?

Finally, thank you to reddragdiva and dennyd for this gem of wisdom:

Do you have feelings of inadequacy?
Do you suffer from shyness?
Do you sometimes wish you were more assertive?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, ask your doctor or
pharmacist about Tequila.

Tequila is the safe, natural way to feel better and more confident about
yourself and your actions. Tequila can help ease you out of your shyness
and let you tell the world that you're ready and willing to do just
about anything.

You will notice the benefits of Tequila almost immediately, and with a
regimen of regular doses you can overcome any obstacles that prevent you
from living the life you want to live.

Shyness and awkwardness will be a thing of the past, (well shyness
anyway) and you will discover many talents you never knew you had. Stop
hiding and start living, with Tequila.

Tequila may not be right for everyone. Women who are pregnant or nursing
should not use Tequila. However, women who wouldn't mind nursing or
becoming pregnant are encouraged to try it.

Side effects may include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, incarceration,
erotic lustfulness, loss of motor control, loss of clothing, loss of
money, loss of virginity, delusions of grandeur, table dancing,
headache, dehydration, dry mouth, and a desire to sing Karaoke and play
all-night rounds of Strip Poker, Truth Or Dare, and Naked Twister.

Tequila. Leave Shyness Behind.
  • Current Mood: Cheery
  • Current Music: Nova Mob - No Promise Have I Made
I now feel inspired to sample tequila right away. Fortunately - I can! Yay drinks cabinets.
It is possible to do both. As I don't have any Tequila to hand, though, perhaps I'll substitute something maltier . . .
I'll, um, listen to Sugar and Nova Mob.

(And remind myself yet again to MP3 the NME 7" with 'Ticket to ride')
Yes. I dug that one out a couple of weeks back. Good stuff. I think I was looking for the House of Dolls EP with the other version of 125mph.
It would be a good name for a band, yes. Only a matter of time, I suspect.

I assume that means you're still using s1 and you've found a way to make it work? Can you tell me in more detail please, I miss my summary view!
As I understand it, the way to make an S1 view still work is to go to the admin console and enter
set trusted_s1 [view number]
which was
set trusted_s1 130615
in my case.

It's explained here at least vaguely.

There are still problems, but not terminal ones for me at least, and either the view will get translated into S2 or the S1 legacy will get sorted . . . hopefully.

I was very glad to find this, because not being a professional programmer I was a bit put off by the lack of S2 documentation and examples.
Tequila. Leave Shyness Behind.

....and let the crazy Mexicans in! ARRIBA!
Re: Summary view
It doesn't work perfectly, as I'm sure you've noticed. In the longer term, a proper S2 view is inevitable.
Re: Summary view
Yes. It still shows subject lines and numbers of posts, which is the most important bit, but it's very clunky now.
