Weekend. Inc Gigantor set list.

On Friday I was supposed to go to the Holyrood for a Beltane meeting, but there didn't seem to be anyone there when I turned up. Apparently there just wasn't really anyone there at all. Very odd. My brother called though, so I ended up in the Hoose with him and a few others who were already there. There are worse ways to spend time.

On Saturday I got up fairly early and went to the Castle, as previously planned. It turns out there's a lot of stuff up there worth seeing, including several separate museums, the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, and awful lot of architecture (the oldest going back to the 12th century), Mons Meg (big enough to crawl into, and definitely one to be on the right end of back when it was firable), the one o'clock gun (Yeah, quite loud from up close), some excellent views (didn't take the 24mm with me, though - next time, perhaps) and, on the way out, Karen my final boss from the Sanger. Which was nice.

After that, home to fiddle with stuff for Gigantor. Lara and Seth picked me up before nine and were good enough not to be visibly aggrieved that I wasn't entirely ready. It was rather fun from this end, although I didn't talk to as many people as I'd have liked because of (as usual) being on duty. Some nice surprises among those who did turn up, though.

First thing Sunday involved phoning a tired-sounding Lara about going to see a tower block vanish. She drove us out there, found a nice close place to park and then we waited half an hour. Fifteen minutes before time there was a siren, and then shortly after that four crap streakers blokes in their underwear ran through the cordonned area, before getting stopped by the cops and made to stand still in the breeze until it was all over rather than go back to their clothes or indoors. Serves them right.

At about one minute to there was a single loud mortar-shell high in the air, and then right on time a series of explosions around the base and the all-too solid block melted into dust and rubble. All over in a couple of seconds. Other people's photos can be seen here and here. Lara's, possibly with vido, might follow.

After a cup of tea back at S&L's, I went up Calton Hill for another walk-through. Numbers are looking better, although if any of you would like to get involved we're still looking for stewards, who get an excellent view of the proceedings and don't have huge demands made on their time beforehand ( or mention it to me or Steve or someone). Cold and windy but very instructive.

Later Sarah came round to reclaim her cat, temporarily at least. She seemed happy in the new place, but it seems odd not having her around.

* Yes, that Hawking. No, not really. Although apparently there's a whole album of it.

Blue tracks were requests. I thought I had the request sheet with me, but I seem to have left it behind, Anyone who can correct my addlebrained memories please feel free to contribute.
  • Current Mood: pleased.
  • Current Music: Neubauten - Compressors in the dark
Interesting pictures (apart from the streakers). A few years ago I saw a power station being demolished. Same sort of thing, with the siren then a loud crack of explosives. The huge building literally split down the middle. A few minutes later, they demolished the chimney. Cool.
The ones of it halfway down with each floor having become a jagged line are the ones I like best, I think. There are another two or three which will also come down over the next year or so. I may try to catch them too.
Yeah, those ones look brilliant and the right-hand side of the building looks like it might stay standing to begin with. It'd be quite cool to 'surf' the building down by standing atop that light-grey roof on the top as it blew. Don't forget to save your game though.
"Compressors in the dark" - a song which should consist of the sound of a running compressor, followed by the noise of someone tripping over and swearing vigorously at whatever stupid fuck forgot to replace the light bulb in the compressor room :)
Nice familiar feeling about that playlist.
I remember being in the debating hall one friday night back in '92. A guy in my class was encouraging me to go dance. I was waiting for something inspiring. I was eventually inspired by something by KLF, and they let 'fireworks' off over us. ..hmm, was that before or after the fire?!

Glad you enjoyed the Castle. Great view also. Top of Outlook Tower is good also.
I repeat my earlier offer if you want to go back for photography purposes.
Thank you. I may well take you up on that sometime when the light's good.

Hope things are going OK at your end..
Whenever I'm free.

Things are OKish. The funeral is going to be next Monday so hopefully Nicky's coming home on Wednesday. The girls seem to be coping at the moment - giving them plenty of distractions.

I wouldn't mind some company if you were free tonight or tomorrow night and felt up to having good whisky forced on you?
Sounds worthwhile. I've a Beltane meeting tomorrow, but it won't go on late. I'll call you when it finishes?

oh, that NIN remix was called all the pigs, all lined up and i have no clue what BIGGOLP is, even though it's probably something that i put on.

I hadn't realised some of them were requests. The Garbage, in particular. Ah well. Good good.

BIGGOLP was one of the ones we wrote in a few minutes later. I'll show you the sheet at some point and maybe we'll work it out.

99 songs played - 33 of 'em requests.

are we required to be that statistically pleasing ?
